in the first world, there are two whistles that will "send you to a far away land." the first is in the third level. once you get to the end, jump on the white/gray-ish block, press down (to fall behind scenery) and run to the end. (be careful to avoid turtles and such, because they can still hurt you.) This will open a "pick a box" screen... and there you are... the first one.
the second one is in the castle. keep your tail through to the end, and when you get to the first door, don't go in. run to get "pixie" and fly above the wall. run to the end (as far as possible) and press up... there you go.

On the original Super Mario and lost levels game in bowsers castle, if you hit the ax when the timer hits zero, your time bonus will count down from 0, to 999. This shall keep going on until you hit the zero again.
