Start a new game, you will get armor and a skill of some sort. Hit Esc and pick export. Save your character in an empty slot. Pick back and hit Esc again and choose quit. Start another new game and choose import istead of one of the character types. Pick start game. You will start a new game and be able to get the armor and skill again. You will also start with any gold, equipment, skills and experience you had when you exported your character. Go as far along as you like to gain more experience and better equipment and export and start again.

I had a hard time starting a game with a battle mage, I found if you explore north east of the area where you kill the rabid wolves as part of the quest to protect the farmers animals. You will pass the starting point for the vampiress and a graveyard, You are going to go to the extreme north east. Enter the cave and kill the mage anf speak to the sarphin who will give you a fireball upgrade. Now my fireballs do over 300 points of damage making some of the later quests are not so hard.
