Using the "?" boxes correctly

Use the following trick to help your chance of winning in almost every mode of play. When getting a "?" box, wait until you see another item box one before planting mine. If timed correctly, the "?" box that was laid down will be directly on top of where the original one was. If anyone tries to get it, they will not be able to tell it is a fake until they hit it.

Lighting bolt

On the Wario Stadium, Royal Raceway or DK Jungle Parkway tracks, use a lightning bolt just before someone reaches the jump. They should fall off the jump, costing them time. Do not use it when they are on the turbo pads because it will not affect them.

Bowser's Castle: Shortcut

When you get to the rotating floor, go around it all the way until you see the small entrance. This will get you a little ahead on the track.

How to get stars next to your name

To get 1 you need to beat all cups with 1 star or better.
To get 2 you need to get a 2 star rating on all grand prixs.
To get 3 you need to get a 3 star rating on all grand prixs.

Shortcuts

Note: This may be already known to some gamers.

I've found some shortcuts on certain tracks in the game. Here are a few:

SHROOM BRIDGE: As soon as you get out of the first tunnel, go straight instead of turning left. It's a sandy road at first, but then it turns into a jump...you will gain about 2 positions.

DELFINO SQUARE: On the seaside, near the docks, there's a small space in between two buildings. It's a shortcut, with a mudpit in the middle, so it may slow you down...you will gain 1 position.

BOWSER CASTLE 1: After the spinning carousel, there's a hall all the way to the right. It takes you to the Spinning tower right before the bridge. Will get you 2-3 positions.

DK PASS: On the mountainside, right before the turn where the road turns into a snowy path, go up the mountain. There is a ? Block at the top of the hill, with only Stars and 3x Mushrooms. Use the Block's power toi get you down the mountain and get you 2 positions.

Accelaration

WICKED cheats

when blowing ur bolloons [B]HOLD[/B] select down insead of blowing into the mic and that may cuase dammage.

if u only have one bolloon left and u have a mushroom get up close to the enemy or friend then quickly click the left triger and swoop really close to ur enemy or friend and u should swip a bolloon off them.

peach gardens shortcut

in the begining of the lap there is a giant flower ring. if you get a mushroom you can get through it faster. you use the mushroom to plow right through the long flower part it gets you about 3-4 places up.

(note if you go through without a mushroom you go through alot slower)

Green Shell Cheat

When you get a Green Shell you can press L for a long time and then you can be protected from any red shells that are fired at you!

Star next to name

Win all cups in all classes with a 1 Star or greater rank. A star will appear next to your name in multi-player mode and next to your name on the "Records" screen.

Drafting

If you are in second place or worse, follow the opponent ahead of you very closely. You will see lines on the sides of your kart. Follow close for long enough, and a large air wave will appear in front of you. This increases your car's top speed momentarily and allows you to push aside other karts, even if you are light. When the wave vanishes, your speed will return to normal.

Snake Drifting

When going to circuts or racetracks, a good example is Figure 8 Circuit. You know when you turn you normally drift, by pressing R and pressing right and left on the keyboard Super Quick. Well When you in a straight passage or you are pro. Just keep drifting down. And You go FASTER!!! Ok good luck!

when you are batlling in ballon batle and your short on ballons get one of the mushrooms that makes you go fast and then use it when your in front of someone (this does not work if you have 3 baloons)

First when the track turns to the left stay to the left as much as possible. If there is something there that will slow you down move beside it but still stay close. Moving to the right is the same exact thing. When there is a ramp press [B]R[/B] at the right time you will go higher; that makes you go higher witchs make you cover more ground.
